I absolutely love Our Way Cafe. I grew up in Decatur and my group of friends
would walk there from the other side of Decatur just to get a veggie plate …
I went to college down the street from Our Way, so I ate there
in college too. I live downtown now, but I still drive to Decatur sometimes
to get a take-out plate. I'm not big
on meatloaf or pork roast. I honestly
think they overcook their entrees a bit. But it's completely worth a visit
to them just for sumptuous macaroni and cheese, creamy whipped potatoes and
mushroom gravy, succulent sweet potato casserole, juicy greens, and a biscuit.
Granted, that's like one million calories, but for three sides or a meat and
two it's less than ten bucks … with a drink! Now THAT'S soul food. Side note: It's not a formal restaurant
at all. No table service.

I wish my waistline could afford to eat here every day - reminds me of visits
to grandma's on the farm. Outstanding comfort food - haven't had a thing that
I haven't liked. LOVE the chicken enchilada's and the creamed corn is addictive.
For those that don't know, Our
Way Cafe also does catering - we used them for a party and they prepared and served the most creative, tasty Asian Fusion menu. Thank you Our
Way for making this world a happier place.
Pros: Thumbs way up for tasty.
Cons: Ambience will not impress a first date.

This place is great! The decor is definitely not the focus - the food is
the main event. The portions are so big you can get the half sizes of both
entrees and sides and not feel cheated or hungry after your meal. Everything
I have tried has been good. I will second the meatloaf, because it is great.
So far, my favorite dessert is the cherry crumb … whatever the rest of the
name is. Getting just sides/vegetables also makes for a very satisfying meal.
I do think they are cash only, so visit the ATM in the parking lot if you need
it.

Oh, man! Comfort food! It's just so good, and so cheap … and the guys that work there are adorable. Salmon loaf - really, it's good and not scary at all. Awww - and the hot chicken salad!
Our Way Cafe is addictive. This place is heaven on earth. I always leave with a clean plate, a full stomach, and a smile. When I first started going there I was obsessed with the meatloaf (still am). It is amazing, but I have since branched out and have had many of their dishes including their pork roast, bbq, chicken, and a few casseroles. All have been stellar. This place is just southern cooking at its absolute finest.
I haven't even touched on the huge variety of sides/veggies they have. I always get their mac & cheese and then get different things to go with it. You seriously can't go wrong. If you like a little spice in your bread make sure to get the jalapeno cornbread as a nice compliment to your meal. And one more thing that should go without saying … make sure to have a sweet, iced tea with your meal.
The only negative is that they aren't opened on the weekend … I've had to hold my cravings until monday quite a few times. This place is by far the best when it comes to "meat and 2 veg." Just go and thank me later.

Southern comforts prevail at this popular meat-and-three that straddles the geography between Decatur and Avondale Estates [not really - see note below]. It typically offers five entrees each day, but the tried-and-true meatloaf always basks in the spotlight. The secret, according to co-owner and recipe maestro Eva Roswall, is the abundance of meat, the lack of filler and the unmistakable tang of homemade tomato chutney. The kitchen churns out about 40 pounds of meatloaf a day.
More mealtime serenity can be found in the chicken enchiladas and the signature
macaroni and cheese starring Monterey Jack, cheddar and white cheese sauce.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, a full-on vegetarian entree comes on board, including
pacifiers like veggie pot pie and lasagna.

Reason to Come Back: Fried Corn and Meatloaf
After Southern Star closed its doors, I have been mourning. Our
Way Cafe is
a good bet for the Southern meat and 3. Their cornbread is excellent which is
usually my test of a Southern restaurant. Be prepared for cafeteria style eating
and too much brick a brack on the walls. You can eat for $6-$10 per person. The
food is as good or better than Watershed, which is overrated and overpriced.
Go here instead.
